Chevy Silverado 1500 Bed Accessories: Covers, Liners, Toolboxes and Racks That Fit

Bed sizes, fitment notes and every guide I've written for the Chevy Silverado 1500.

Short answer

Silverado 1500 bed accessories are split by generation. 2019–2026 trucks use 5'10", 6'7" and 8' beds that are wider than before, so 2014–2018 gear won't carry over, while 2019 "Legacy" trucks take the older parts. Trucks with the Multi-Flex tailgate often need a "with Multi-Flex" version of a cover.

The 2019 redesign changed the Silverado's bed more than most buyers realize. Chevy made the bed floor much wider and introduced the Durabed name, and the change split almost every accessory into two families: one for 2014–2018 trucks and one for 2019 and newer.

This page shows you which family your truck belongs to, the bed sizes for each, the features that change what fits, and the best gear in each category.

Lengths are inside floor measurements with the tailgate closed, from Chevrolet's published specifications.

The lengths barely changed in 2019. The width is what changed: Chevy says it widened the maximum bed floor by nearly 7 inches, which raised cargo volume on every bed. The short bed went from about 53 to 63 cubic feet, the standard bed from 62 to 72, and the long bed from 75 to 89. A wider bed means different rails and different clamps, which is why covers, liners and mats are almost never shared between the two generations.

Which Silverado Bed Do You Have?

First, check your generation. If your truck is a 2019, look at your window sticker or run your VIN through a decoder. Some 2019 Silverados are the old-body "Legacy" model (sometimes called the "LD"), built alongside the new truck for one more year. Those take 2014–2018 accessories.

Then, check your bed. Your cab narrows it down:

Short (5'8") or standard (6'6")

Double Cab

Standard (6'6")

Regular Cab

Standard (6'6") or long (8')

Accessory listings use these feet-and-inches labels, but a few list the 2019+ short bed as 5'8" or 5'9" instead of 5'10". They mean the same bed. Match your generation and "short, standard or long" rather than the exact label. Still unsure? Our measuring guide takes about five minutes.

Silverado Features That Change What Fits

The Multi-Flex tailgate

Many newer Silverados have Chevy's six-position Multi-Flex tailgate. Some covers work with or without it, but others come in separate "with Multi-Flex" and "without Multi-Flex" versions, and ordering the wrong one is a common mistake.

Owners also point to a gap between the tailgate's upper and lower sections that can let water into the bed under any cover, especially in car washes. A tailgate seal kit usually fixes it; it's not a sign that your cover is faulty.

The 2019 Legacy trucks

Covered above, but worth repeating because it's the most common Silverado fitment mistake: a 2019 Legacy is mechanically a 2018, and takes 2014–2018 parts.

The CarbonPro bed

Some GM trucks have a carbon-fiber CarbonPro bed instead of steel. Most standard covers won't fit it. It's much more common on the GMC Sierra, but if your bed is carbon fiber, only buy products that name CarbonPro in their fitment.

Factory side storage boxes

Some Silverados have storage boxes built into the bed sides. Several covers exclude them, so check the listing's notes.

Cover height and the power tailgate

A cover sitting slightly low on one side can stop a power tailgate from releasing. One owner found his cover was just 1/8 inch low after his tailgate refused to open. Clamp the rails evenly and test the tailgate after any install.

The 2027 redesign

GM redesigned the Silverado 1500 for 2027. Gear made for 2019–2026 trucks generally won't fit, so if you're buying for a 2027, wait for products listed specifically for it.

Silverado Bed Accessories by Category

Tonneau covers

For most 2019–2026 Silverados, a hard folding cover like the BAKFlip MX4 is the best all-round choice; owners report it works smoothly with the Multi-Flex and power tailgates. For a soft roll-up, the TruXedo Pro X15 is a favorite among Silverado owners, but order the correct with or without Multi-Flex version.

Bed liners and mats

Because the 2019+ Durabed is wider than the old bed, drop-in liners and mats must be listed for 2019+ trucks. Spray-in liners follow any bed's shape. If you add a tonneau cover later, remember that a textured spray-in surface can keep adhesive bulkhead seals from sticking flat.

Tool boxes

Most Silverado owners choose between a crossover box behind the cab and a low-profile box under a closed tonneau cover. If you want both a crossover box and a cover, plan them together, since you'll need a shortened "toolbox version" of the cover.

Bed racks

A bed rack opens up the space above the bed for ladders, rooftop tents, bikes or kayaks. With a tonneau cover, look for a rack that clamps outside the cover's rails, or a cover with T-slot rails built for racks.

Bed extenders

On the 5'10" short bed especially, an extender lets you carry longer loads with the tailgate down. Choose between hitch-mounted extenders and flip-out tailgate extenders.

Frequently Asked Questions

What bed accessories fit my Silverado 1500?

Any accessory listed for your generation, bed length and tailgate. Check whether it's for 2014–2018 or 2019+ trucks, whether it lists your bed (short, standard or long), and whether it needs a Multi-Flex version.

Will 2014–2018 Silverado accessories fit a 2019 or newer truck?

Usually not. The 2019 redesign widened the bed floor by nearly 7 inches, so covers, liners and mats are listed separately. The exception is the 2019 Legacy, which takes 2014–2018 parts.

How do I know if my 2019 Silverado is a Legacy model?

Check your window sticker or decode your VIN. The Legacy is the old-body truck sold alongside the new one for 2019, and it takes older-generation accessories.

Do Silverado and Sierra accessories interchange?

Usually, for the same years and bed length, because the two trucks share a bed. The main exception is the carbon-fiber CarbonPro bed, which needs its own versions.

Why does water get in through my Multi-Flex tailgate?

Owners report a gap between the tailgate's upper and lower sections that lets water in under any cover. An aftermarket tailgate seal kit usually fixes it.

What size is the 2019+ Silverado short bed?

5'10", or about 69.9 inches inside. Some accessory listings call it 5'8" or 5'9"; they mean the same bed.

Can I fit a tool box and a tonneau cover together on a Silverado?

Yes: either a low-profile box that fits under a closed cover, or a crossover box paired with a shortened "toolbox version" of a cover.
