Ford F-150 Bed Accessories: Covers, Liners, Toolboxes and Racks That Fit

Bed sizes, fitment notes and every guide I've written for the Ford F-150.

Short answer

The right bed accessories for your Ford F-150 depend on three things: your bed length (5.5, 6.5 or 8 ft), your generation (2015–2020 and 2021–2026 trucks often need different versions), and your tailgate, since 2024+ trucks with the Pro Access tailgate need gear that clears the swing-out door. Raptor and Lightning trucks only come with the 5.5 ft bed.

The F-150 is the easiest truck in America to find accessories for, and that's exactly what makes shopping tricky. Hundreds of covers, liners and racks claim to fit it, but "fits F-150" can mean a specific bed, a specific generation, or both. This page sorts it out.

Below you'll find F-150 bed sizes for every generation since 2004, the features that change what fits, and a summary of the best gear in each category.

Lengths are inside floor measurements with the tailgate closed, from Ford's published specifications. Notice that the 2015–2020 and 2021–2026 beds measure the same. Even so, many hard covers use different part numbers for the two generations, so always match your model year, not just your bed length.

Which F-150 Bed Do You Have?

Your cab style narrows it down, but doesn't decide it:

The "5'7"" label confuses a lot of buyers. It's the same bed Ford calls 5.5 ft; gear makers just round the 67.1-inch measurement differently. If you're still unsure, measure from the inside of the front wall to the inside of the closed tailgate, or check your window sticker. Our measuring guide walks you through it.

F-150 Features That Change What Fits

The Pro Access tailgate (2024+)

Many 2024 and newer F-150s have the Pro Access tailgate, which swings open like a door as well as dropping down. It isn't offered on the Raptor or Raptor R. Ford designed it to work with tonneau covers, but some hard folding covers can block the swing door when they're closed. If you use the door often, choose a cover whose listing mentions Pro Access. Owners also report that the door's extra gaps make the tailgate harder to seal, and an aftermarket tailgate seal made for Pro Access helps.

Raptor and Lightning

Both use the 5.5 ft (5'7") bed. Many 5'7" covers and liners list them, but check the fitment notes by year before you order, because some products exclude one or both.

Generation splits

The 2021 redesign carried over the bed dimensions, but many accessories still split their part numbers at 2021. Soft roll-up covers are the exception: some, like the TruXedo Lo Pro, use one part number for 2015–2026 short beds, including Raptor and Lightning.

Racks and bed rails

If you plan to add a bed rack, bike rack or ladder rack, look for gear built around T-slot rails. Several hard covers, including the BAKFlip MX4, come in "TS" versions with T-slot rails for 2021+ trucks, so the cover and rack can share the bed.

Bed liners and seals

A spray-in liner won't stop most covers from fitting, but its textured surface can keep adhesive bulkhead seals from sticking flat, which lets water in at the front of the bed. With a drop-in liner, check whether it sits under or over the bed rails, since many tonneau covers need an under-rail liner.

Tonneau covers

The F-150 has the widest choice of covers of any truck. For most owners, a hard folding cover like the BAKFlip MX4 is the best all-round pick: it locks with your tailgate, carries real weight and folds against the cab for the whole bed. If you want something lighter and cheaper, a soft roll-up like the TruXedo Lo Pro gives you full bed access in seconds.

Bed liners and mats

Your choice is between a spray-in liner (applied by a shop or with a DIY kit), a drop-in plastic liner, or a rubber bed mat. Spray-in liners follow the bed's shape exactly; drop-ins are cheaper and removable; mats protect the floor and stop cargo sliding without covering the walls.

Tool boxes

On an F-150, the main choice is between a crossover box that spans the bed behind the cab and a low-profile box that fits under a closed tonneau cover. A crossover box needs a shortened "toolbox version" of any cover you add later, so decide on both together.

Bed racks

Bed racks turn the bed into a mounting platform for rooftop tents, ladders, bikes and kayaks. On an F-150 with a tonneau cover, a rack that clamps outside the cover's rails, or a cover with T-slot rails, lets you keep both.

Bed extenders

A bed extender adds length when you need to haul something longer than the bed, which is handy on the 5.5 ft short bed. Hitch-mounted extenders support loads past the tailgate; tailgate extenders flip out to fence in cargo with the tailgate down.

Have an Older F-150?

Trucks from 2004 to 2014 use different bed rails and tailgates from the 2015+ aluminum-bodied F-150, so their accessories are listed separately. Our guide to the best tonneau covers for the 2004–2014 Ford F-150 covers those trucks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What bed accessories fit my F-150?

Any accessory listed for your exact model year and bed length. Check three things on the listing: the years (many split at 2021), the bed (5'7", 6'7" or 8'), and any notes about the Pro Access tailgate, Raptor or Lightning.

Is the F-150 5.5 ft bed the same as a 5'7" bed?

Yes. Ford calls it 5.5 ft; many accessory listings call it 5'7" because it measures about 67.1 inches inside.

Will accessories for a 2015–2020 F-150 fit a 2021–2026 truck?

Sometimes, but don't assume it. The bed measurements are the same, yet many hard covers and some other accessories use different part numbers for each generation. Buy a product that lists your model year.

Do F-150 accessories fit the Raptor and Lightning?

Many 5'7" accessories list both, since they share the 5.5 ft bed. Confirm Raptor or Lightning by year in the fitment notes.

Does a tonneau cover work with the F-150 Pro Access tailgate?

Ford designed the tailgate to work with tonneau covers, and owners report that covers like the BAKFlip MX4 let the door open with the cover closed. Some hard folding covers can block the door, so check the listing if you use the door often.

Which F-150 cab styles get the 8 ft bed?

On 2021–2026 trucks, only the regular cab. On 2015–2020 trucks, both the regular cab and SuperCab offered it.

Can I fit a tool box and a tonneau cover together on an F-150?

Yes, two ways: a low-profile box that fits under a closed cover, or a crossover box paired with a shortened "toolbox version" of a cover.
