Best Tonneau Covers for GMC Sierra 1500: Fitment by Bed, Trim & Year
Short answer
The best tonneau cover for most GMC Sierra 1500 owners is the BAKFlip MX4, a hard folding cover that works with the MultiPro tailgate and comes in a separate version for the carbon-fiber CarbonPro bed. For a soft cover, the TruXedo Pro X15 is the pick, and it too has a CarbonPro version. Before you order, confirm your bed length (5'10", 6'7" or 8'), your body style, and whether your bed is steel or CarbonPro.

The Sierra shares its bed with the Chevy Silverado, but two GMC features change your shopping list. The six-function MultiPro tailgate needs a cover that clears it, and the CarbonPro bed, offered on Denali and AT4 CarbonPro Editions, won't accept most standard covers at all. Owners commenting on GM Authority have warned that normal 1500 bed accessories don't fit the carbon bed.
This guide focuses on those details: five covers that handle them well, which version fits which Sierra, and what owners report after living with them.
How I picked: I compared covers using maker specs and fitment listings, published reviews and owner reports from truck forums. I don't test covers my selves. TruckBedFit is reader-supported; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.
Quick Picks: Best GMC Sierra 1500 Tonneau Covers

Sierra 1500 Fitment: Bed, Body Style, Tailgate and Bed Material
Work through these four checks in order. Cover listings usually group the Sierra 1500 with the Chevy Silverado 1500 of the same years, except for CarbonPro versions.
1. Body style. 2019–2026 Sierras use the "new body style" covers. The 2019 Sierra Limited is the old body carried over for one year and takes 2014–2018 covers. Your window sticker or VIN decoder will tell you which you have.
2. Bed length.
Your Sierra (2019–2026) | Listings usually say | Approx. inside length |
Short bed | 5'10" (sometimes 5'8" or 5'9") | 69.9 in |
Standard bed | 6'7" | 79.4 in |
Long bed | 8' | 98.2 in |
3. Tailgate. If your Sierra has the six-function MultiPro tailgate, buy a cover listed as working with it. Some covers come in separate with- and without-MultiPro versions.
4. Bed material. This is the Sierra-specific trap. The carbon-fiber CarbonPro bed debuted on 2019 Denali and AT4 CarbonPro Editions and became more widely available on those trims for 2020. Its sidewalls are shaped differently from the steel bed, so standard covers don't fit. Only buy a version that names CarbonPro in its fitment.
Also check: some covers exclude trucks with factory side storage boxes in the bed.
Buying for a 2027? GMC redesigned the Sierra 1500 for 2027, so 2019–2026 covers generally won't carry over. Wait for 2027-specific listings.

The Best Sierra 1500 Tonneau Covers in Detail
Each pick lists the Sierra versions to look for, the key specs and what owners report.
1. BAKFlip MX4: Best Overall
The MX4 is the safest choice for most Sierras because BAK covers both bed materials: a standard version for steel beds and a dedicated version for CarbonPro.

Sierra versions: 2019–2026 5'10" steel bed (part 448130, shared with the Silverado); 2019–2026 5'10" CarbonPro bed (part 448135); other bed lengths and 2014–2018/Limited versions are listed separately
Load rating: 400 lb evenly distributed
Bed access: full; folds back against the cab on rubber bumpers, keeping the third brake light visible on short and standard beds
Install: click-in clamp system, no drilling
Warranty: 5 years
What owners report: A Sierra owner on GM-Trucks.com switched to the MX4 after trouble with a roll-up and says the power tailgate drops just fine with it installed. Other GM owners say it locks in each folded position and doesn't interfere with the MultiPro tailgate. As with every folding cover, expect some water at the tailgate in heavy rain or car washes.
Verdict: The best all-round Sierra cover, and the easiest hard folder to buy for a CarbonPro bed.
2. TruXedo Pro X15: Best Soft Cover
The Pro X15 is a low, flush soft roll-up with automatic tension control, and TruXedo makes it in more Sierra-specific versions than most covers.

Sierra versions: 2019–2026 5'10" with MultiPro tailgate; a separate version without it; and a 2020–2026 5'10" version for CarbonPro beds with the MultiPro tailgate (part 1474301)
Construction: matte woven vinyl over 15-degree rails; DriveTight automatic tension
Bed access: full; the whole cover removes in seconds without tools
Warranty: limited lifetime
What owners report: GM owners like that it sits flush, stays off the rear window when rolled up, and lets the MultiPro tailgate drop without issues. One owner who moved from an MX4 noted it isn't as watertight, and like any soft cover, a thief can cut it.
Verdict: The best choice if you want a light, removable cover, especially on a CarbonPro Denali or AT4.
3. BAK Revolver X4s: Best Hard Roll-Up
The Revolver X4s rolls up like a soft cover but uses interlocking aluminum slats and locking side rails, so you get security and full bed access without a folded stack against the cab.

Sierra versions: standard-bed versions plus a CarbonPro version for short-bed Sierras
Load rating: 400 lb evenly distributed
Security: rotating lock rails and automatic slam latches
Warranty: 5 years
What owners report: This is the pick with the most mixed feedback. Owners like the low profile and clear rear window, but one GM-Trucks.com owner said his Revolver gave him nothing but trouble in cold weather, and owners on other forums report it can be hard to roll up below freezing and can let water in at the tailgate.
Verdict: Buy it for security and full access in a mild climate. In snow country, the MX4 is the safer bet.
4. RetraxONE MX: Best Retractable
The RetraxONE MX slides into a canister at the front of the bed and locks at any position along its rails.

Sierra versions: 2019–2026 short bed for steel beds (part 60481) and a dedicated CarbonPro version (part 60488); both work with or without the MultiPro tailgate. The steel-bed version excludes factory side storage boxes.
Construction: one-piece aluminum-reinforced polycarbonate
Load rating: 200 lb evenly distributed
Warranty: 1 year on RealTruck's current listing
What owners report: One GM owner said a Retrax on an earlier truck leaked down both sides after a couple of years, even after a warranty replacement. Others report a dry bed after a careful install with the front seal flat and drain tubes connected.
Verdict: Buy it for lock-anywhere convenience on either bed type. Take your time with the install.
5. UnderCover Ultra Flex: Best MX4 Alternative for Steel Beds
RealTruck's own comparison calls the Ultra Flex and MX4 nearly identical in price, build and warranty. The Ultra Flex adds a carpeted underside and folds straight up rather than leaning back against the cab.

Sierra versions: 2019+ listings that work with the MultiPro/Multi-Flex tailgate; no CarbonPro version listed
Panels: double-skinned aluminum with a carpeted liner
Install: click-in clamps, about 30 minutes
Warranty: 5 years
What owners report: We found fewer owner reports than for the MX4, so there's less long-term evidence either way.
Verdict: Worth buying if it's cheaper than the MX4 for your bed at the time. Not an option for CarbonPro beds.
Best Covers for CarbonPro Beds and Denali, AT4 Trims
If your Sierra has the CarbonPro bed, your list is short. These are the covers we found with CarbonPro-specific versions:
Style | CarbonPro option |
Hard folding | BAKFlip MX4 (part 448135) |
Soft roll-up | TruXedo Pro X15 (part 1474301, for trucks with the MultiPro tailgate) |
Hard roll-up | BAK Revolver X4s CarbonPro version |
Retractable | RetraxONE MX (part 60488); retailers also list a Pace Edwards JackRabbit for CarbonPro beds |
Covers whose listings exclude CarbonPro include the UnderCover Flex and the steel-bed versions of the MX4, Pro X15 and RetraxONE MX.
How to tell if you have CarbonPro. GMC introduced it on Denali and AT4 CarbonPro Editions. The bed has a grained composite surface that GMC says doesn't need a bedliner, and it ships without factory wheel-well liners. If you're unsure, check your window sticker for CarbonPro.
Denali, AT4 and AT4X: check the bed material first; a CarbonPro bed decides your cover. Elevation, SLE, SLT and Pro: most have steel beds, so standard 2019+ Sierra covers apply as long as the MultiPro tailgate setting matches. GMC said early on that CarbonPro could spread to other trims, so check your sticker if in doubt.
Sierra Details to Check, and Installation Tips
These are the issues Sierra owners post about most.
Dealer-installed mismatches on CarbonPro. One owner on GM Authority described a standard cover that had been installed on a carbon bed where it didn't belong. If a dealer is fitting your cover, confirm the part number says CarbonPro.
The MultiPro tailgate gap. Owners note water can get in through the gap between the MultiPro tailgate's two sections, under any cover. A tailgate seal kit helps more than switching covers.
Cover height and the power tailgate. A cover sitting slightly low on one side can stop the tailgate from releasing. One GM owner found his was 1/8" low after the tailgate refused to open. Clamp the rails evenly and test the tailgate by remote after install.
Factory side storage boxes. Several covers exclude them; check the listing.
Bed liners on steel beds. Spray-in liners are fine, but adhesive bulkhead seals may not stick to textured spray-in surfaces. Clean well, or add a bulkhead seal.
Install in five steps: confirm the part number matches your bed material, length and tailgate; clean the rails and front wall; fit the bulkhead seal flat; clamp the rails evenly; then adjust the latches and test the tailgate both by hand and by remote.
