Best Tonneau Covers for Ram 1500 (2019–2026)
Short answer
The best tonneau cover for most Ram 1500 owners is the BAKFlip MX4, which BAK makes in separate versions for RamBox beds and for trucks with and without the multifunction tailgate. For a soft cover, the Extang Trifecta 2.0 is the pick, and it's one of the few that fits RamBox trucks with or without the multifunction tailgate in a single version. Before you order, confirm whether your truck is the new body or the Ram 1500 Classic.

My top picks
The Ram 1500 has more fitment variables than almost any other pickup. Three Ram features change which cover you need: the RamBox storage bins built into the bedsides, the multifunction tailgate that splits and swings open, and the Ram 1500 Classic, the previous-generation truck Ram kept selling alongside the new one.
Get any of the three wrong and the cover won't fit, or it'll leak. This guide shows exactly which version to buy for each setup, and what Ram owners report after living with these covers.
How I picked: I compared covers using maker and retailer fitment listings, product specs and owner reports from GM-Trucks.com and other forums. I don't test covers my selves. TruckBedFit is reader-supported; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.

Ram 1500 Fitment: Four Things to Check
1. New body or Classic?
From 2019, Ram sold two different 1500s side by side: the redesigned new-body truck and the older-design Ram 1500 Classic. They take different covers. BAK tells buyers to verify whether their 2019–2024 Ram 1500 is the New Body Style or the Classic before ordering. The Classic generally uses the same covers as the 2009–2018 Ram 1500 (see "Have a Ram 1500 Classic?" below).
2. Bed length
Bed | 2019–2026 new body | 2009–2018 and Ram 1500 Classic |
5'7" short bed | 67.4 in | 67.4 in |
6'4" standard bed | 76.3 in | 76.3 in |
8' long bed | Not offered | 98.3 in |
Lengths are inside floor measurements with the tailgate closed, from Ram's specifications. Not sure which you have? Use our truck bed measuring guide.
3. RamBox or not?
RamBox beds have storage bins built into the bedsides, which changes the rail profile, so they need a RamBox-specific cover. There's a catch most buyers miss: BAK says its RamBox covers only work properly with the factory silver cargo rails, not black ones, and Extang's RamBox Trifecta 2.0 has the same restriction. Check the color of your bed rails before you order.
4. Multifunction tailgate or not?
The multifunction tailgate splits 60/40 and swings like a pair of doors, as well as dropping down. Some covers work either way; others come in separate versions. BAK's standard 5'7" MX4 (part 448227) is listed as not compatible with the multifunction tailgate, while part 448226 is listed as compatible. Ordering the wrong one is the most common Ram fitment mistake.
Also check: BAK's and RealTruck's listings say the Ram TRX bed bar must be removed before installing the MX4 or the Sentry CT.
The Best Ram 1500 Tonneau Covers in Detail
1. BAKFlip MX4: Best Overall

The MX4 is the hard cover Ram owners recommend most, and it has the clearest set of versions for every Ram bed setup.
Ram versions (2019–2026 new body, 5'7"):
448226: without RamBox, with the multifunction tailgate
448227: without RamBox, without the multifunction tailgate
448227RB: with RamBox, with or without the multifunction tailgate (silver rails)
448223: 6'4" bed, without RamBox or the multifunction tailgate
Load rating: up to 400 lb
Tailgate seal: a dual-action tailgate seal that's 13 percent longer than before, designed to keep the factory tailgate working whatever position the cover is in
Bed access: full; folds against the cab
Install: clamp-on, with no cutting, trimming or drilling
Warranty: 5 years
What owners report: One RamForum owner with a RamBox Limited replaced the factory tri-fold with an MX4 and says he really likes it. On 5thGenRams, an owner whose retractable leaked badly on his RamBox truck said he never had water with the MX4 on his previous truck. As with any folding cover, expect a little water at the tailgate in heavy rain or car washes.
Verdict: The best Ram 1500 cover for most owners. Just make sure the part number matches your RamBox, tailgate and rail color.
2. Extang Trifecta 2.0: Best Soft Cover

The Trifecta 2.0 is a soft tri-fold, and on the Ram it has one big advantage: a single version (part 92424) fits 2019–2025 Ram 1500 5'7" RamBox trucks with or without the multifunction tailgate, as long as the cargo rails are silver.
Construction: vinyl over an aluminum frame (a canvas-topped Signature version is also sold)
Bed access: release the rear clamps and fold toward the cab for two-thirds of the bed
Install: tool-free Jaw-Grip and EZ-Lock clamps
Warranty: limited lifetime
What owners report: A 5thGenRams owner with the multifunction tailgate said his Trifecta 2.0 let in no water across two long road trips through thunderstorms.
Verdict: The best soft cover for Ram owners, and the easiest choice for RamBox trucks. Skip it if you need security or full bed access with the cover on.
3. RealTruck Sentry CT: Best Hard Roll-Up

The Sentry CT (sold under the TruXedo name) rolls up like a soft cover but uses aluminum slats, giving you a locking cover without a folded stack blocking the rear window.
Ram versions: 2019–2026 Ram 1500 5'7" (part 1584916), compatible with or without the multifunction tailgate; the TRX bed bar must be removed
Load rating: 400 lb evenly distributed
Security: locks, a tension cable and up to six automatic latches
Removal: quick-release, without tools
Warranty: 5 years on hard parts and fabric
What owners report: A 5thGenRams owner who installed the earlier TruXedo Sentry on a RamBox truck noted that TruXedo includes small weatherstrip pieces for each side of the tailgate to close the gap there. Long-term Ram reports on the newer CT version are still limited.
Verdict: The best Ram pick if you want hard-cover security with roll-up convenience.
4. BAKFlip F1: Best for Dents and Hot Climates

The F1 is BAK's hard folder with a fiberglass-reinforced top. Its FRP surface stays cooler in the sun and resists impacts better than all-aluminum panels.
Ram versions: 2019–2026 Ram 1500 5'7" without RamBox, with the multifunction tailgate (part 772226)
Load rating: 400 lb evenly distributed
Warranty: 5 years
What owners report: One owner with RamBoxes and the multifunction tailgate who installed an F1 said he wasn't thrilled with the gaps at the tailgate, but found them fixable.
Verdict: A good choice if you park outside in hail country or hot sun.
What About Retractable Covers?
Retractables work well on many Rams, but RamBox trucks are where owners report the most trouble.
On non-RamBox trucks: a 5thGenRams owner with the multifunction tailgate said his Retrax Pro XR fit well, with good sealing front and rear, and the tailgate doors open and close nicely.
On RamBox trucks: another owner said his Retrax leaked along both rails, at the tailgate and even in the middle of the bed, and blamed the RamBox bed shape. A RamForum member concluded that any cover sealing on top of the RamBox lids will leak, because of the gaps between the lids and the bedsides.
Bed space: one Retrax owner said the canister cost him about a foot of bed space.
If you have RamBoxes, a folding cover is the safer bet. For more on this style, see our guide to the best retractable tonneau covers.
The Two Ram Leak Spots, and How Owners Fix Them
1. The tailgate corners on RamBox trucks. A RamForum owner says the biggest problem with RamBox beds is the large gaps at the tailgate corners, which no cover fully closes. Adding weatherstripping there greatly reduced the water, even in car washes.
2. The multifunction tailgate gap. Owners point to a gap between the multifunction tailgate and the top of the bed that can let water in. A tailgate seal kit or weatherstripping helps.
A little water at the tailgate corners is normal with any cover. For more ways to keep the bed dry, see are tonneau covers waterproof?
Have a Ram 1500 Classic?
The Classic shares its bed with the 2009–2018 Ram 1500, so it takes those covers, not the new-body versions above. A few examples:
BAKFlip MX4, 6'4" bed without RamBox: part 448203, which also fits the Ram 2500 and 3500 6'4" bed
BAKFlip MX4, 6'4" bed with RamBox: part 448203RB, for trucks with the silver cargo rails
Extang Trifecta 2.0, 6'4" bed: listed for the 2009–2018 Ram 1500 and the 2019–2023 1500 Classic
For a full list of picks for these trucks, see our guide to the best tonneau covers for the 2009–2018 Ram 1500 and Ram 1500 Classic.
Installing a Tonneau Cover on a Ram 1500
Confirm the version: new body or Classic, bed length, RamBox, tailgate type and rail color.
Remove the TRX bed bar if your truck has one.
Clamp the rails evenly so the cover sits flush and the latches line up.
Seat the tailgate seal and test the tailgate both as a drop gate and, on multifunction trucks, as a swing door.
Add weatherstripping at the tailgate corners if you have RamBoxes.
Recheck the clamps after a week of driving.
Some owners with the multifunction tailgate mention needing aftermarket replacement bed brackets for certain covers. Check your cover's instructions before you start.
